METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF NEURODEGENERATION - 11 April 2019

Alzheimer disease (AD) is an age-related disease involving neurodegeneration that results in progressive loss of cognitive function. Five medications are currently used to treat the cognitive manifestations of AD: four are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (tacrine, rivastigmine, galantamine and donepezil) and the other (memantine) is an NMDA receptor antagonist.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention encompasses the discovery that Fc-containing polypeptides that include branched glycans and that are sialylated.....are useful in treating neurodegeneration, e.g., in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease.

The present disclosure provides, in part, methods for treating neurodegeneration or neurodegenerative diseases by administering compositions containing such Fc-containing polypeptides as well as methods for evaluating, identifying, and/or producing (e.g., manufacturing) such polypeptides for the treatment of neurodegeneration.
