JNJ/Ethicon and Medtronic/Covidien have been getting killed in terms of stapling revenue for years ever since Intuitive brought a robotic stapler to market. If you are clinical, you know a 12mm port needs to be introduced in the abdomen for stapler firing. Titan, although a Single Port robot will require an accessory/assistant port for procedures requiring stapler use. Titan’s 2 incisions (Robot + Accessory/assistant port) as opposed to daVinci’s 5 incisions will accomplish the same procedures. Titan is the future.

I don’t think Titan (as of yet) has a stapler in the works for their initial launch. The possibility of JNJ/Ethicon or Medtronic/Covidien getting a piece of the stapling revenue pie in the robotic surgery world with Titan may be very interesting..
