RAMS (Range Association of Municipalities & Schools) is celebrating its 80th anniversary as an advocacy organization for the Iron Range and all communities and schools that reside within the boundaries of the Taconite Assistance Area. RAMS was on record back in the 1950’s as supportive of the exploration and possible mining of copper nickel and sent correspondence to our Congressional delegation requesting their support for the same. Exploration did take place in the 50’s but never went beyond minimal examination of the potential for mining at that time.

The perseverance and commitment that you have shown as the CEO of the PolyMet North project has been tried and challenged for over a decade and RAMS wants to publicly thank you for your dedication, your focus and your willingness to continue the work, the never ending permitting process and the public scrutiny to accomplish the first ever fully permitted copper nickel mine plan in the state of Minnesota. This accomplishment cannot be minimized as it opens the door to numerous other potential mining operations in the future of our state and specifically our region where the rich deposits are found.

Jon please share our appreciation and sincere gratitude with your great team of employees for the investment in our region, for your commitment to see this challenge through to the end, and for your continued efforts to secure all necessary funding for the actual construction of the most modern non-ferrous mining operation in North America. RAMS, on behalf of the 75,000 plus residents represented by our membership groups stands by your side ready and willing to get this mining project to the day the first ton of precious metals is mined and processed all while ensuring our environmental beauty is preserved and protected.
