GPOs will not drive these deals. Contracts will not drive these deals. Price will not drive these deals. Surgeons will drive these deals. What did ISRG have when they first hit the market? A robot, that’s it. No established sales team, no contract status, no GPO status, no clinical data, incredibly high pricing, company was unknown, no reputation, established laparoscopic contracts in place, trained surgeons using lap techniques (not robotic), tons of pushback that surgeons did not need robotics, CEOs not wanting to buy robots.

After years of hard work and focus, ISRG is a cash producing machine. surgeons drive the sales of robots in hospitals, ISRG is the gold standard, they now have contract status, surgeons are now trained on robotics, surgeons now demand robotics for certain surgeries. Very few ORs in the US are without a da Vinci.
