The only part to catch my attention was this one:

"AMD has some converts in the software industry. Microsoft Corp. plans to begin selling a test version of the Windows XP operating system for Athlon 64 late this year and a final version in early 2004, says Chris Jones, a vice president in the software companies Windows platforms group. Epic Games, producer of the hit game Unreal Tournament, plans to release an Athlon 64 version of the game this fall. "There is no question that 64-bit will be successful," says Mark Rein, a vice president at the Raleigh, N.C., company.

Just in time for the (projected) higher volume shipments...
