KeithDust, that is my observation, also. HPQ and IBM are AMD's two biggest friends. Both of those companies have very good reasons to want a strong, independent alternative to Intel, and AMD is delivering the quality product to be that alternative.

Also, as I've long noted, HPQ and Intel have very different motivations for productizing Itanium. Intel is motivated to have Itanium become the x86 replacement, although that effort is much delayed. That would be a disaster for HPQ because they want Itanium for their high end Unix workstations and servers, and Tandem fault tolerant computers. HPQ needs Itanium to be a pricy, high-end part to help justify their margins. That's why I fully expect to see them adapt AMD64 - to protect their Itanium margins and clearly differentiate the market.
