jonesieatl: If I may...

1) "How much of that is fact?"
It's all fact, from what I know, except for the ASSUMPTION on brewskih's part: "QR and DATA MATRIX...appear to be becoming the standard codes of choice by the big players in the US."
Well, no need to go any further because you know what they say about assuming. ;)
Now, to comment further, if I'm a brand manager and I have the choice between putting a VARIABLE (URL can be changed BY ME, ON THE FLY WHENEVER it suits MY needs W/O having to put new codes on new products) 2-d code on my product (OR not worry about putting one at all, just stick w/ the barcode) or a STATIC 2-d code on my product...which would I go for? The VARIABLE code, of course. It's a no-brainer!
Think about it...what a friggin headache - static codes - you have one product, two different promotions or whatever over a short period of time...you change it, but wait, you still have potentially millions of "old" codes out there going somewhere that's no longer relevant - WHAT GOOD IS THAT!? Further more, you have to go back to the printing presses and have the code changed for the new labels. Even more...what about location specific promotions? Remember, NEOM has THAT mobile PATENT too! ;)

2) "How much of that is potentially detrimental to NEOM's market and revenues?"

That is unknown and all speculation now. IMO, in the short term, a hurdle to overcome. But, it's all about educating the consumer. This new ONE promotion, IMO, will QUICKLY educate the consumer. Same will be done here in the near future, IMO. IMO, in the long term...hurdled and behind us. NEOM will RULE this space. (IMO)

3) "Does the MSFT part of that preclude MSFT being a big rich DOT that might connect to the NEOM DOT anytime soon?"

We know, they know about NEOM. Time will tell. IMO, with a positive outcome of the Scambuy litigation and with the court wins (settlements) already under their belt, MSFT will pay willingly. IMO, they don't want to tarnish their image of being a corporate bully anymore than it already is. Sure, if they were the first defendent, then they might push it. But, at that point (after Scambuy win;), there will be too much known and documented by the courts for MSFT to put on a case that'll hold any water. Once MSFT willingly comes along, all others (IMO) will follow suit.

Bottom line..."STATIC" QR and/or Datamatrix code - very limiting..."VARIABLE" qode code - very LIMITLESS! :)
