Proof they were indeed trying to develop SiN on SiN hip at one time. Looks like theyve experienced alot of setbacks.

Well I`d like to know these set backs. Depending on what "doctor" you`re talking to SiNi shatters because muh ceramics. If it's simply squeaking or edge loading, it looks like the implant design engineers are studying this, determining the cause and addressing the issues. H1 implant is a good example of the industry not completely abandoning the concept of COC, where I feel SiNi shines the most.

In terms of the bearing materials, ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearing couples exhibit superior wear properties when compared to metal-on-metal (MoM) or metal-on-polyethylene (MoP) combinations

Really read this if you get a chance.

An ideal contact of artificial hip joints require the bearing components being properly positioned to assure contact area produced at the cup bearing surface not intersecting cup rim

BOOM, squeaking.

However, adverse conditions such as micro-separation may cause head-cup rim contact and consequently high stress and substantially elevated wear [15], [16], [17]. Micro-separation has been associated with varied clinical situations including head offset deficiency, medialized cup, stem subsidence and soft tissue laxity...femoral head offset deficiency or medialized cups, making contact at the cup rim.

Remember that new Zimmer 510K filing? The tech. progression there is a new design that is less likely to dislocate. Good for revision when the muscles are destroyed from the original implant. Or even all the muscles are destroyed in the elderly from failure to thrive(squeaking at the old folks homes). A design that is promising in the aspect of dislocation may show promise in the area of micro separation that the above is suggesting is related to head cup rim contact. What I perceive to define as edge loading. At least this is my take on it.
