My only pure asset play was a Buffett type "cigar butt" stock long ago and about the only penny stock I ever bought. I was personally familiar with the operation; it wasn't a hot scam in the IHUB sense. My dad knew the owner fairly well.

I think I paid $3 a share and it had something like $2 a share in cash, plus lots of inventory and some real estate. What it didn't have was profit! Two years later I sold out at a buck a share. The company failed soon afterward.

I now pay very little attention to Book Values. LOL! That company probably violated 80% of my current stock selection rules!
