My father was in the Army-Air Force. Pilot training school during the war.
Did very well, especially with math and statistics but encountered a minor problem- could not get the plane down :)

Was assigned to keeping track of planes taking off and landing at an airfield in Texas, to utilize his statistics ability

When he was in his 90's s in the hospital for some disruption- meds off or something, he'd go out in the hall because he "had to count the planes". Ever responsible to almost 97

That's quite OK Dad, had you had that soft touch to land planes, I prolly wouldn't be around. And later, if you hadn't used Old Spice deodorant, the same..

Now his grandson, my deceased brother's son, is a Marine!
