200 Americans died of an overdose of opioid-based pain killer every day. Not junkies! Fathers and mothers of families, pensioners, ... 200 per day!

You are citing the number of opioid overdose deaths and attributing them all to prescription painkillers when almost all of them were from injection of illicit street drugs. They may have been fathers and mothers and pensioners, but they were also junkies injecting street drugs. There is very little the FDA can do about most of these deaths, except maybe to bring back non-ADF original OxyContin so that the junkies can once again have a pharmaceutical-grade clean product to inject. Since the introduction of ADF OxyContin and ubiquitous state monitoring programs, there is very little evidence of widespread abuse of prescription opioids, but there is a large amount of evidence of increasing use of heroin and street-grade fentanyl.
