there is a problem called wear debris, and no matter how you design these implants, wear will occur.



Not sure if I`m stating the obvious, but Mohs hardness is an advantage of Silicon Nitride for wear.

In fact look up marine diamonds. It suggests diamonds are much more resistant to erosion than a single mans lifetime. What's diamonds magic?

Let's look at something lower on the Mohs scale. This might be biased since plastics oxidize and become UV damaged and embrittle. So this can't be suggested as pure weathering by water erosion.

Other microplastics start off as larger items that get broken down to smaller particles in the environment.



Many particles of concern are smaller than this, typically between 100 µm and 1 µm.

Point is you wouldn't be able to harvest marine diamonds and marine microplastics are a non issue since they rapidly erode, and what you cant see can't hurt you(sarcasm). That original quote is highly based on the relativity of physics, specifically time.

Why not go harder on the Mohs scale then, like diamond? That's harder on the mohs scale. But SiNi has a built in antibacterial property, wear products are soluble and resorbable and Silicates being an important constituent of bone gives it better osseointegration and bio friendliness than Diamond. Although Diamond would beat SiNi on wear particulate and hardness it loses out on these other key areas that make SiNi the superior choice.

SiNi is already the superior choice for tribology in mechanics and robotics over diamond. The idea of pursuing this path and stumbling into biofilm resistance, antibacterial, biofriendly and superior osseointegration by happenstance is probably one of life's little mysteries that dives into the realms of philosophy along the lines of great architects of the universe and sacred geometry.

I`m not sure about "gods plan", but it looks like it's hacking gods plan (or biology)if that's a real thing I didnt just make up. Otherwise our bones would have been made from silicon nitride in the first place.
