New development projects progressing in downtown Milford

Hard hats, hammers, and construction workers.
All three have been seen, and heard, in downtown Milford recently. Development is ramping up in a downtown district that went years without seeing any new building construction.

Ann Barnette, the village's downtown development authority director, said the new developments being seen in downtown are a natural progression of pent-up development that was interrupted by the recession.

"Property owners are obviously seeing a stable and growing market in Milford," said Barnette. "As opposed to development patterns in the past, a lot of new interest in the village is related to housing, which is mostly baby boomers looking to downsize and locate into a walkable community with nearby amenities such as restaurants, bike path and the Huron River.

She said the new residential developments in downtown will also attract millennials who may be looking for a less permanent housing alternative that is still high quality.

"Most of the existing multi-family apartment developments are over 50 years old," said Barnette. "I believe the last one that was approved was on South Main Street in the late 1960's early 1970's."

Here is a rundown of all the new developments in Milford and the status of each:

The Marquette: The 100-unit multi-family luxury residential development, located on the former Iverson’s Lumber property, is still under construction. Developer Mark DeMaria, of DevMar Development, said the $27.1 million project is slated for completion in October 2019 with pre-leasing beginning June 2019. Rent will range from $1,600 to $2,600 per month.
