Nebraskan; from the article you posted. I agree, Malpass is an interesting choice for the post.

"President Trump on Wednedsay officially nominated David Malpass, a top Treasury official, for president of the World Bank in an effort to shake up the international institution.
(Snip)
Malpass, 62, Treasury's under secretary for international affairs, was a Trump campaign economic adviser and has worked on development issues going back to the Reagan administration.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in physics from Colorado College, an MBA from the University of Denver, and studied international economics at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service."

How many appointees to a Banking position have a degree in physics? How many have spent time here in flyover land? (A "Local?")

"The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), commonly referred to as the World Bank, is an international financial institution whose purposes include assisting the development of its member nation’s territories, promoting and supplementing private foreign investment and promoting long-range balance growth in international trade.

The president of the bank is pointed (sic) by the Board of Executive Directors. He is the Chief Executive of the Bank and he is responsible for the conduct of the day-to-day business of the bank. The Advisory committees appointed by the Board of Directors. "

Looks like he still needs to be approved by the Board of Ex. Directors. If confirmed he would probably be one of the few people in that position with direct training in sciences. He also attended one of the few Universities in the U.S. that has a degree in Mining Science. That said, I am not certain how much effect the World Bank would have on a mining project in North America. I believe most of their development loans are issued directly to the countries involved.
