What does it mean if a public company has a cease trade order (CTO) issued against it?
A cease trade order (CTO) is an order than prohibits trading in securities of a company by the people or companies identified in the order and for the period of time specified in the order. A CTO may prohibit all trading in the securities of a particular company. In general, if you own shares in a company that is subject to a CTO, you will not be able to trade your shares in Ontario.
Note that the CTO is in BC and many other provinces do honor the CTO in BC and Ontario.
Here is the info on the BC cease trade order for USMJ.
5 North American Cannabis Holdings, Inc. has not filed the required records and the Executive Director has not made an order under section 164 of the Act revoking the cease trade order.
6 Under section 171 of the Act, the Executive Director varies the order to reflect the change of name from Algae International Group, Inc. to
North American Cannabis Holdings, Inc.
