I posted maybe a month ago the makeup of the FDA Advisory Committee and at least 2 (I can't remember exactly) members are tobacco company and manufacturers' reps.

It's looking to me more and more like the Grand Compromise will be to regulate the nicotine in traditional sort of ciggies but not for ecigs, JUUL, what have you.

So we're now looking at an interregnum of sorts, where the tobacco companies are being given time to recalibrate their businesses to be more reliant on vaping addicts. How much time we don't know.

I want to respond also, with my one post, to the person who equates what's going on here with a nanny state sort of overreach, that people should have the personal choice to kill themselves by smoking.

That's a basic misunderstanding of the situation - as long as insurance rates have a parimutuel basis, when someone gets sick from smoking ciggies and can't afford health insurance and has to go to the emergency room, we all pay. And emergency room medical care is the most expensive out there.

That's why seat belts became mandatory in cars -to reduce instances of unnecessary major injuries and death and thereby keep insurance premiums in check - and no one's complaining about a nanny state in regard to them.
