Regarding spending and expenses:

On consulting gigs, I've stayed in 5 star hotels with an expense account for a few clients and have also had to sleep in my car for another.

Guess which group was successful and which one went bankrupt?

Hint, it was the frugal capitalist and she now owns and now operates a profitable cannabis company? She is an example of the people I respect in this industry.

Much of this industry has been fake it until you make it, today the fakers are being exposed and are running out of money.
