Every Quarter, AT&T is currently paying a $0.51 / share dividend. Receipt of this dividend effectively reduces my dollar-cost-average by that same amount. In my case, rather than take the dividend as a cash dispersement, I've enrolled all my eligible holdings in a Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRIP) so every quarter, I get free shares rather than the cash money. I think the dividend is scheduled for pay-out on February 8th. When that happens, I'll receive roughly 30-35 "free shares", thereby reducing my average cost.
