BTW, should add that stocks were bought almost entirely for their dividends a century ago. Only briefly in the late 1920s before the Depression, and after the 1950s did capital appreciation become important. By the 1960s dividends became of minor importance.

So a company could eventually fail and still greatly enrich its shareholders via years of divs. In the past 15-20 years investors have rediscovered dividends.

Here's an amazing fact. While the Dow didn't regain its pre-Depression level until about 1960, if you included dividends you would have been even by about 1938! You almost never see that fact.

There's a damn good reason rich old geezers buy dividend paying blue chips! I often say few IHUBers know anything about REAL stocks.
