I got the same e-mail, wanting an update on shares held. Any views on reasoning or aim.

The TA would have that information for every shareholder how ever when you are not a legitimate officer of the business they will not talk to you. So view is if they go around the TA and collect everyone and share values themselves then they think they can hold another election to create a legitimate officer of the company. There is no way to get all the shareholders this way in a list without the TA involved as there are a few who are not on internet forums or email lists. At this point it would not be worth it as there is nothing left at all. We can expect the caveat emptor to be permanent.
