You have to wait 3 days when you first open an account or add cash to buy a non-marginable stock. After 3 days, it will say under the funds for trading, non-marginable funds. That is the amount of cash you have to be able to buy something like this. Same thing will happen when you sell. You'll have to wait 3 days for the trade to settle before you can buy another non-marginable stock. Right now you can buy pretty much anything listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX, but not a OCTBB or a pinksheet.
