Despite the outcome, Eads said the city will try to make both projects work, and he expects Dharma to open within 12 months at the mall. In the future, Dharma could possibly reapply for another location in the city, he added.
“We’ll figure it out,” Eads said.
Eads spoke during the hearing.
“The conditional approval for Dharma to be located in the city of Bristol is a tremendous win for our city and for the patients of Southwest Virginia,” he said. “Dharma is one of the first successes that we have had in a long time. We are also excited about the role Dharma’s medicines will play in helping us to combat the opioid crisis. This is a priority for our region, and Dharma’s presence will be important in this fight.
