He is only creating illusions, not investing. They don't destroy they own value, trust, relations to banks and markets because it's so much fun throwing away cash. The only logical explanation is it's a scam and they CAN'T get cash. No assets to sell, no real life earnings, no bank relations, no business. That's the only believable explanation that it's a scam.
