Yes, good strategy. Doing the same, looking for those companies others may want due to complementary products, geography, etc. Also a bit safer than lumping it all in one big value play.
Funny thing, it may end up like banks were a number of years back. I'd select a small local one, it would be gobbled up. I'd go to another smaller one, it was gobbled up. both of those companies then get gobbled up... in the end, my money ends up in the biggest player but it's their execution, not my guessing as to who would be biggest, that led me to being in the biggest... With stocks, if i'm choosing the right smaller companies, the big ones are paying me to join them. I like that.
