From little ive read about tantalum it seems like a good metal. What if you combine Si3N4 with tantalum? Like TM with Si3N4 coating. This would fix its fusion issues. The main issues with this is the implants would likely be expensive and that Tantalum is a heavier metal than Titanium. There's simply not enough research on tantalum dealing with corrosion and toxicity.
