The problem with your argument is that you are comparing Apples (S&P 500 firms) to a Lemon (KBLB). Most S&P 500 companies have steady income. Whereas, in the past 12 years, KBLB has only had one contract with one customer (and they still haven't fulfilled that contract as of yet).

IF KBLB ever has steady income, then maybe Kim will deserve a decent salary. But at the moment, the company is bleeding money, it has no new customers, and it has no products that can be produced at commercial quantities and sold.

KBLB is essentially an R&D lab at the moment and NOT an S&P 500 company.
