Hey, something I can speak from from my profession with ecommerce.

There are for sure regional differences in what is perceived as a "good" website. Yes in the US, there is a higher bar of standard in terms of a usable website, establishing trust, etc. However when you look at China, their cultural norms don't value this as heavily as the basis of a "good" website is one of focusing towards establishing competitive advantage. The sense of competition is different in china to a degree.

Making a good website is much more than just buying a domain and getting a wordpress account, but regardless of that fact, take Baidu for example... is it a "good" website from the POV of usability, aesthetics, etc? Probably not, especially if you compare to Amazon (it's US mirror). But is Baidu successful? Absolutely! on 11/11/18 alone, it made records in sales.

So saying that a website isn't "good" as a basis for it being fake, is flimsy at best. Are there scams that have good websites? of course, but the inverse can be true as well.
