chipguy, I would agree that for a blade server 55W maybe just enough while 30W will be overkill, but, imagining the situation that Intel will be able to manufacture 55W Prescott one day, it definitely will be slower than Opteron at that power. Same true for Deerfield.

30W cpu may be used to produce some future ultra-dense blades, not existing now. For example, imagine 64P Opteron server packed into single 6U box. If each 2P blade is around 70W, then why not?

I recall Sun posting requirements for their blade servers, it was something like 25W per cpu. That was posted here.
