When the water "drops" out the air warms, i.e. the reverse process happens and the air starts to go back up. It becomes turbulent. Which means air goes up and down and side to side and swirls and all its energy is wasted bumping into things and not "flowing" uniformly.



Yes , This would be true ,if there were no exit path out the bottom of the tower..but since it does have an exit at the bottom it will continue
