but most surgeons I have spoken to don’t want to put a hard ceramic object in the spine.

If your intentions are straight bashing, This is good. It means they are evolving. If this is sourced from an honest concern and being objective, He's right. Ceramics in spine isn't common or standard operating procedure. Show me a ceramic that's been adopted or marketed previously to this in spinal cages. Some docs hear the word ceramic and think shatter and dont want to hear any more about it. Is this based in the word ceramic or previous ceramics in the implant industry being known to shatter? They're not material engineers or willing or wanting to sit down and have the time to discover how hard of a substance SiNi is and it's unwillingness to shatter. The ability to shatter would be dependent on in vivo phase changing of the material over the course of it's life in my opinion.

Amedica is aware of this it appears and pushing toward doping of PEEK and coatings of more traditional materials to meet these concerns, based on my research. Cant find the link to the video discussing this. Why didn't they bother to do this before? My guess is they needed the data of numbers and time to show no issues on the material. They have that data now thanks to spine.

In marketing if you think of a doctor as some genius you can tuck away a bunch of research everywhere and expect him to read it and understand you may be disappointed. If you think of him as a goof ball on an assembly line of surgery, I think you have more accurately assessed the situation and can develop an edge in marketing this way. If they funded a hydraulic press video comparing the various materials to dispel this, I think it would serve as a visual aid and a TLDR(to long didnt read)to peak interest much better than some research documents that are boring and hard to read and best left for the guys in quality control. Maybe this can be left up to the next company with a marketing department and budget.
