IB: "we gave you money, remember?"
CEO bob: "oh, right. never mind."
that's just imaginary dialog, written to prove a point.
makes sense now?
most likely their fee will come out of the funding. and/or maybe bob will kick the IB guy a bit of equity.
there are many ways to structure a deal like this.
