Weekly Wrap-Up: Gold and Silver Find Slight Gains on the Week

The Metals:



Gold dropped $1.90 to $1223.20 in Asia before it climbed up to $1230.50 by a little after 8AM EST, but it then drifted back lower into the close and ended with a gain of just 0.11%. Silver dipped to $14.559 before it rose to as high as $14.715 and then also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 0.41%.



Euro gold fell under €1066, platinum gained $11 to $832, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $2.77.



Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended slightly higher.



The Economy:



Mortgage rates retreat, but housing supply crunch won't let up MarketWatch

The Markets:



Oil rose almost 1% over continued tension with Saudi Arabia.



The U.S. dollar index fell as the euro rebounded after “European Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said Italy was strongly committed to the EU and the euro, and that Brussels was not going to interfere in Italian economic policies.”



Treasuries edged lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher on mixed earnings reports.



Among the big names making news in the market Friday were State Street, eBay, PayPal, Procter & Gamble, Deutsche Bank, Daimler, and SolarWinds.
