Sounds like a foreign body reaction. Same foreign body reaction is probably responsible for bone receding that causes the need for bone graft materials. Same industry talking about "all organic mercury" and "mercury allergic reaction". When referencing this I have had to literally spell out heavy metal poisoning and some people still dont get it. Probably the mercury working it's magic.

I don't think the FDA cleared the built in bone graft in C+CSC. From my understanding they had to add a hole to add bone graft material for FDA approval. So what does it take to get cascade approved as synthetic allograft? break it up into chunks? add HA and tricalcium phosphate to a silicon nitride scaffold? or add it as an addition to an approved synthetic allograft?

In dental, if the only option is lacing approved synthetic bone graft. I dont see the harm. Seems it would perform as well as a silicon nitride based bioglass. It's the long bone load bearing strength where it looks like it would under perform compared to a silicon nitride based bioglass.

That's a research I would like to see. (poor goat). removing a section of long bone. patching the pieces back together with a plate and porous silicon nitride(HA tricalcium phosphate doped or not). Waiting for it to heal and seeing what mechanically replacing the silicon of the bone with silicon nitride this way does to the strength of a bone when healed.

I think there's a disconnect between health care and research. Research is pushing forward into medical advancements. Healthcare protects profit and wants to warranty their work until their truck gets out of your driveway and has to be dragged forward kicking and screaming.
