I think you've been reading Dr. Brett Steenbarger - that's a good call.

Here is a link to what the doctor ordered:
http://www.brettsteenbarger.com/trader_performance.htm (look for the October 31st entry in the archives)

1. First generate the list of stocks you want to put in your basket. The list can come from research done on other websites or from our own Stock research pages (http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/)

2. Enter the list of symbols into Trade-Ideas. Here are the easy steps to do that in our video tutorial: http://www.trade-ideas.com/VideoHelp/Menu.html?video=Trade-Ideas%20Pro%3A%20Symbol%20List%20Editor (transcript included)

3. "During the day, I measure the number of new 5 minute highs reported by Trade Ideas during the day minus the number of new lows. That turns out to be an effective trend gauge. I'm reluctant to short markets that consistently are making more new highs than lows and vice versa." -- Dr. Brett Steenbarger. Simply select the 5 min high alert (http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#IDH5) in TI Pro under the Alert tab, name the window, and hit Done. That's it!

Note: there's no need to use any of the filters in the filters tab - you've already done the job of the filters with your symbol list, just concentrate on what alerts (trigger events) you want to see.

See the previous post for some more, detailed explanation of how to create an alert window in TI Pro.
