Cement rains down from ceiling of Detroit parking garage (10/12/18)

Cement is falling from the ceiling of a Detroit parking garage, endangering people and vehicles, according to an email sent to residents of a nearby apartment complex.
Grand Circus Parking Garage is located under Grand Circus Park and is primarily used by long-term lessees at nearby high-rises. Occasionally, it is also open for public events.
An email sent to residents of Broderick Tower by a representative of the apartment building's owners, Motown Construction, Inc., warned "in some areas on the 2nd & 3rd levels there’s cement falling from the garage ceiling."
"If you must park your vehicle on the 2nd & 3rd levels park in the outer spaces and make sure you look up at the garage ceiling to check for falling cement," the message added.
An employee at Broderick Tower confirmed the email was genuine but said to reach out to Premier Parking for further information. Premier Parking was not immediately available for comment.
The city's Building Safety, Engineering and Environmental Department also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The garage was leased to creditor Syncora Guarantee, Inc. during Detroit's bankruptcy in 2014, according to Crain's Detroit. Crain's reported in September that the garage was going to be redeveloped as part of a multimillion-dollar joint venture between the Syncora subsidiary Roxbury Group and national garage owner Premier Parking.
In May, another parking garage in the city collapsed, damaging eight cars.
