OT - I think if one was to research it, they would find that the reason you can jumble up the letters in the between the ends is because of three things. Reading is pattern recognition. Most people have never been properly and explicitly taught the patterns, so if the patterns are a little jumbled, but close enough, what's it matter. You didn't know what they were suppose to be in the first place other than what you have memorized. Two, because a lot of words sound exactly the same, but have different meanings, to be able to tell what meaning is to be used in the written form, the coding was developed in such a way to have multiple codings and yet get the exact same sound. Such as break, brake, or slay, sleigh. So seeing variations to get the same sound is nothing new. And third, because of syntax, you expect to see certain words in certain places in a sentence, so anything that looks close, good enough.

Now for something that will make your head spin around in circles. Take the words, nine, dine, and line. They are obviously different words that sound similar, but are distinctly different. And each word starts with your tongue touching the top of your mouth. Now consider if you will exactly where your tongue is touching the top of your mouth and the ever so slight variations your mouth is making to get the distinctly different sounds. What exact is your tongue and mouth doing different to get the different sounds. You ponder that for a minute or two and your head will start spinning around in circles. <g.

And for anybody that claims they are an expert, ask them this: how many syllables does hire have? You sure? Absolutely positive? Well how many syllables does higher have? <g>
