Algol W here, and I reject completely the new paradigm nonsense. that's just wishful thinking. In my day Fortran didn't have If Then or else's and integers began with I,J,K or L. The strength of the case lays in the courts desire not to overturn patents that should never have been granted in the first place for the algorithms lack innovation and are simple solutions to simple problems that anyone could have arrived at. It is a moral question for society whether such should be patent-able or not. This is a grubby 'wild west 'stick up' not a new paradigm.
