Well, maybe this is their year

That’s good timing for Bet Construct, which plans to formally launch a social gaming site in the U.S. later this summer after test-launching the site in January. Jonathan Aiwazian, the company’s regional director, who is based out of the Los Angeles office, said the goal of the social media site is to attract casinos, who can use it to reward customers who play it with, for example, a free night’s stay.

It’s also planning to launch, this summer, a cash-based fantasy sports website, winnerdraft.com, in states where it’s legal. The company opened its first U.S. office in Los Angeles in 2017 and currently employs nine people there; it could come close to doubling that by the end of the year.

“We’re well known around the world, but we’re just getting started in North America,” said Vahe Baloulian, Bet Construct’s former CEO, who stepped down in late 2017 and now operates as a strategic advisor based in the company’s commercial headquarters in London.

Bet Construct is counting on growing its presence in the U.S. thanks to the recent Supreme Court decision that struck down the federal law banning sports betting and is already paving the way for states other than Nevada to offer single-game sports wagering. The company said it has licensed its proprietary technology to BC Technologies, which is currently going through the regulatory process with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

That’s all a big deal, Baloulian said, adding that the company has been prepping for the opportunity to work with casinos and other venues who might want to open or upgrade a sports book.

“We do an A-to-Z sports book,” Baloulian said. “We not only do the technology, we supply the data, run risk management, and create odds around the world. We do video streaming, also… everything that is related to sports.”

Bet Construct remains a private company, with about 350 customers around the world. The company has a presence in Europe, Asia and Africa, and a growing presence in Mexico, South America – including Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru – and the Caribbean.

They currently employ approximately 2,500 people in 15 offices around the world, with a staff of more than a thousand headquartered in Armenia. Its Los Angeles operation started with four employees, including two in sales and one in product. That office has since added a marketing staff and plans to soon add some developers while continuing to expand the sales and marketing departments.

The company’s products and technology are used for sportsbooks, fantasy sports, live player, poker, skilled games, social gaming, virtual sports, live video sports streaming, and virtual reality casinos: “everything but lottery and bingo,” Baloulian said. Its major competition on the sports gaming side is Scientific Games.

“We came to the U.S. hoping they would license poker or sports betting, and that’s finally happened,” Baloulian said.

Bet Construct went international in 2011, Baloulian said, because officials realized the technology and model would be successful.

Even its pricing model is attractive.

“We believe in a diversified market, we don’t believe in monopolies,” Baloulian said. “We make it affordable for small companies to get into business. We provide them with the same ammunition we provide the larger ones and let them fight in the marketplace with the same chance as everyone else.

“We’re a maverick company, because we change a lot of rules and push (in) the direction people thought was taboo.”
