The answer to that question is extremely easy. When a stock is worthless and there are no Market maker participants, and a shareholder wishes to take a tax loss a little bit early in the year instead of waiting for December 31st to do so, his or her broker will purchase the stock back from them at the lowest possible price they can just so the individual can take a tax loss. That is the reason why you see a stock trade at such inconsequential numbers far Below .0001/share
