Just trying to always maximize profits. For instance, I have a number of stocks stocks all trading in a similar range. If one of them spikes, then I can take some of the money by selling that one and put it into one that is towards the lower end, and continue to do that in a way such that I always have a sizeable position in all of them but at different times the ratio will change. I do this b/c I never know when one will take off and the other(s) will lag, impossible to know, so this helps raise cash in order to buy more of each of them as they pull back.
