Back in my day,(the 60's) an ounce was referred to as a "lid" and went for 10 bucks and they were full of seeds and stems, low quality stuff. The Sons of Champlin (a Bay Area - Marin) band put out an album called Minus Seeds and Stems. If you ever sat around with a bunch of weed in a shoebox picking out the seeds and stems, this makes perfect sense.

The LSD however was top notch, abundant, and often free at concerts and other events, most likely thanks to Augustus Stanley. (Later the most reliable source was Picard who was also from the Bay Area).

The really great ONE from the Bay Area was the chemist Sasha Shulgin the godfather of Ectasy, who passed away in 2014.

Shulgin eshewed weed, a drug he felt was too stoney, but both he and his wife were big on chemicals that elucidate the mind.
