NO BIG FOUR ARTICLES OUT TODAY

The only people who matter are the chairpeople of the Agriculture Committee in the Senate and the House

They are the ones who make all of the decisions regarding what goes in The 2018 Farm Bill

Pat Roberts — Republican Senate

Debbie Stabenow — Democrat House

Mike Conaway — Republican House

Collin Peterson — Democrat House

The last interview with one of the Big Four came out yesterday

It was an interview with Collin Peterson and he was fairly optimistic about getting the Farm Bill done:

Rep. Peterson explained, “We’ve made very good progress this week. We’ve had a number of calls. Right now we’re waiting on scores on a couple of things. And that’s kind of what held us up yesterday afternoon, because we don’t have these couple of things that were put on the table by Chairman Conaway, I guess it was Tuesday, which get us, in my opinion, in the range of getting this thing done.

I have not seen any interviews with any of the Big Four today, so I don’t have anything substantive to post

I have read a number of articles, both positive and negative, from sources that appear to be full of political posturing, so I wasn’t going to post any of them

However, I have seen a piece floating around that sounds like pretty over the top political posturing to me, coming from a House Democrat named Jim McGovern who loathes the cuts to food stamps in the Republican House version of The 2018 Farm Bill

Here are a few quotes from it so you can judge for yourself:

Speaking about The House version of the 2018 Farm Bill:

If we brought the Senate version to the House floor today, it would pass,” McGovern said. “But (House) Speaker Ryan won’t allow it. This is red meat for some Republicans, a chance to beat up on poor people. Paul Ryan’s dream is welfare reform. Hunger has become a political issue.”

But the Republican House version would directly cut SNAP benefits to nearly two million people, including:

469,000 households with children;

About 34 percent of seniors in the program, or 677,000 households;

And more than one in 10 people with a disability, another 214,000 households.

In addition, the House version of the bill would also impose stricter work requirements on SNAP recipients, raising the work requirement age, for instance, from 49 to 59, and effectively stripping another 1.2 million people of benefits.

“This doesn’t reflect reality,” McGovern said. “A majority already work, many of them at low-wage jobs, and they receive benefits for less than a year. But there all these stereotypes out there about SNAP recipients, all these narratives being pushed by the Tea Party. They need to shut up and do what’s right.”

I am going to continue to wait to hear from one of the Big Four on the status of The 2018 Farm Bill

And as soon as I do, I will post it here
