I truly don't understand why it costs so much to service. Typically max LTV is 80%. So yes, a strong housing market reinforces the debt obligation. But if home owners are not moving and are living longer, the recapture period takes a lot longer. Ultimately, the mortgagee can only recapture what is owed, regardless of home price??
