Elmer, given the comparitive ramps between Opteron and Itanium 2, you would then have to conclude that Itanium 2 is not manufacturable.

Not my conclusion. I accept that Intel can manufacture the Itnaium 2, they are just finding it difficult to shoehorn a new, incompatible and expensive architecture into the world.

I accept that AMD can manufacture the Opteron, and that they have a lesser (but not insignificant) problem of growing a demand for an x86-64 product without Intel's blessing.

We don't have to invent complicated manufacturing excuses for either Intel or AMD's ramp speeds for their perspective products. Also, I am very happy with the availability and growing acceptance of Opteron - it is meeting my most optimistic expectations.
