You ENTIRELY missed the point of my post. It was precisely what Don Layton stated in the post by Patswil to which I replied. One side wants to marshal the GSEs into housing entitlement enablers and another side wants to hack them to death as the root of all evil and the Financial Crisis. I do not share the views of either extreme and make no case to choose one or the other. In fact, my advocacy is to choose neither, restore them back to exactly where they were before September, 2008 and have FHFA exit the scene as conservator and go back to its regulator's role as its predecessor, OFHEO.

There is no Financial Crisis today. The truth is, as so many have recently observed (including Franklin Raines): the risks of extreme challenges to affordable housing and taxpayer risks of having to bail out capital-depleted GSEs are actually greater now than in 2008. Going back there is BETTER than the status quo. Just go back, exactly as if no conservatorship ever occurred, and let the politicos resolve their differences in a legislative reform.

Your Postcard Plan is unnecessary if my solution is adopted.
