In the past decade, the popularity of the music festival scene has exploded across North America.

Massive, multi-day events have drawn huge crowds to watch artists of from a wide variety of genres — from rap to folk to metal.

Louisville has undoubtedly been at the center of the unprecedented growth of the movement.

In 2014, Danny Wimmer announced the creation of Louder Than Life, a multi-stage, hard rock event.

Two years ago, that organization launched another big music festival in The Derby City — Bourbon and Beyond.

Both are set to return to Louisville's Champions Park later this month.

Bourbon and Beyond is scheduled for Sept. 22 and 23. Musical headliners for the event include John Mayer, Sting, Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and David Byrne.

Louder Than Life is set for following weekend (Sept. 28, 29 and 30) and for the first time ever the festival will span three full days.

“I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished since the inception of the festival," Wimmer said. "In five years, Louder Than Life has become the largest rock ‘n’ roll whiskey festival in the world, and I see no better way to celebrate its fifth year than to close out the weekend with Nine Inch Nails and Ice Cube.”

The musical line-up for Louder than Life features some of the best-selling and well-known rock, hard rock, metal and rap acts of the past two decades — including Alice In Chains, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, Bush, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Idol, Ice Cube, Limp Bizkit, Slash (featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators), Seether, Black Stone Cherry and Skillet.

The festivals may have strikingly different styles of musical talent on stage, but both also have plenty of attractions to appeal to taste buds of everyone.

Both events highlight local cuisine from Louisville and also Kentucky's best adult beverages.

Once again, Louder Than Life's Bourbon World and Bourbon and Beyond's Big Bourbon Bar are set to showcase the products of the top Kentucky distilleries, including 1792, Angel’s Envy, Barrell Bourbon, Basil Hayden’s, Bloody Butcher’s Creed, Booker’s, Boone County Distilling, Bowman Brothers, Buffalo Trace, Bulleit, Contradiction, Cooper’s Craft, Eagle Rare, E.H. Taylor, Elijah Craig, Elmer T. Lee, Evan Williams, Four Roses, Jefferson’s, Jim Beam, Jim Beam Black, Kentucky Owl, Knob Creek, Larceny, Maker’s 46, Maker’s Mark, Michter’s, New Riff Bourbon, Old Forester, Peerless, Rabbit Hole, Rebel Yell, Rock Hill Farms, Wild Turkey, W.L. Weller, and Woodford Reserve.

Additional featured spirits include Jack Daniel’s, Uncle Nearest Whiskey, Southern Comfort and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Local and regional restaurants will be at the festivals as well, including Bouquet, Boss Hog BBQ, Cellar Door Chocolates, Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar, Citizen 7, Gospel Bird, Longshot Lobsta, Mike’s Kentucky Kitchen, Midway Café, Tumbleweed, 502 Café, and Whiskey Dry.

Food from regional and national festival favorites including Island Noodles, Pie Baby Wood Fired Pizza, Chicago Dog House, Angry Bird Grill, Ben’s Cantina, Spicy Pie Pizza, Mount Olympus, Phat Daddy’s Creole, Master of Patties and Red Top Dog will also be available.

Louder Than Life is produced by Los Angeles-based Danny Wimmer Presents, a producer of some of the biggest rock festivals in America, including Rock On The Range, Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, Monster Energy Aftershock, Monster Energy Fort Rock, Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, Chicago Open Air, Bourbon & Beyond, Monster Energy Rock Allegiance, Northern Invasion and more.

In the past four years, more than 100,000 people have attended Louder Than Life.
