I'm not sure I've ever read a worse analogy.

The company announced a sale to the world via an official PR, not some block telling his wife he done good.

Revenue can be recognized at various points along the sales process, whether it be raising an invoice or receiving the payment.

Recognition at time of payment is using an accounting methodology called "cash basis". Earlier recognition would come under "accrual basis". Cash vs Accrual.
