He's also talking about the need for adapters to adapt different manufactures tapers when the femur would have to be split to remove the stem. To adapt a different femoral head to the existing stem. A Silicon Nitride adapter here would separate the two metals on stem to head contact and eliminate galvanic corrosion of dissimilar metals I would think.
