It looks like you should be safe from anything major until at least this weekend...hopefully so anyway cuz this thing is gonna be historical. Latest models have it making landfall in the Carolinas (southeast NC most likely) and then slowing down and completely stalling out there once it makes landfall, dumping up to 20" of rain inland. The really historical aspect looks to be the flooding. Very similar setup as Harvey in Texas last year.
Not sure where it'll go once it finally starts to move out...I'm hoping it stays east of us, but it could track up through the Ohio valley or head up the east coast and hit you. That looks to be more into next week.
How do you prepare for hurricanes there? Just stock up on food & water and pray?
