Pregnant Chinese woman, 67, vows to continue with pregnancy -

A 67-year-old Chinese woman who is pregnant with twins has opted to defy
doctors’ orders to have an abortion over fears for her health.
The woman, identified only by her surname, Zhang, would be one of the
oldest women in the world to give birth.
Previously, the oldest Chinese woman to become a motehr is Sheng
Hailin, who birth to twins aged 60 in 2010.
Ms Zhang said she was determined to go ahead with the pregnancy after
losing her only son, who was 34, in a car accident four years ago,
reported the South China Morning Post.
“I couldn’t fall asleep without sleeping pills for years.
I used to dream about educating my son’s children, but it came to
nothing,” she told the Beijing News.
Ms Zhang and her husband were unable to conceive naturally again or to
adopt because of their age.
A hospital in Taiwan was willing to offer her a course of in vitro
fertilisation in June, which proved to be successful.

China, Ms Zhang said that several doctors had refused to treat her
after warning that her high blood pressure and age would make the
pregnancy extremely risky.
At least one had advised her to undergo a termination.
Hospitals have reportedly been advised by the authorities not to treat
her without first seeking guidance.
Zhang said the advice made her “feel like I was a wanted criminal”.
She added: “No one cared about me when I lost my only child, so I found
a way out by myself, but you’re blocking me again.
“I’m not so rich, but I’m prepared to support a child, and I believe I
could live to 85 to see my child grow up to be an adult.
“[Even if I couldn’t,] my nephew, who’s about 40 years old, can help
raise the child.
Having a child is everything to me,” she said.
